If you don’t wish to visit a doc here are some home-based tricks to whiten your teeth. Kitchen Remedies:Oil pulling – This practice improves oral health and removes toxins from the body. Take a sip of coconut oil and swish in your mouth for approx. 5 minutes and then spit. It helps in removing the bacteria that can turn into plaque and cause your teeth to look yellow. Brush with baking soda – This is a very old technique from the kitchen. Baking soda has natural whitening properties. Brushing on alternate days for not more than one minute will help to clear off the stains. Hydrogen peroxide is a natural bleaching agent that kills the bacteria too in your mouth. Fruit Peels – Certain fruits like oranges bananas and lemons are very useful in whitening teeth. Peel these fruits and rub their inner side on teeth and rinse after. But go easy as overuse and pressure can erode the enamel. Strawberries are also known to bleach the teeth. Eat fruits and vegetables: A diet high in fruits and vegetables is good for overall health and teeth. Crunchy, raw fruits and vegetables can help rub the plaque away as you chew them. Prevent tooth stains: Black teas and coffee, White and red wine, Carbonated beverages (dark and light-coloured sodas), Berries and other strongly-coloured foods, Sauces (soy, tomato, curries) cause tooth enamel to stain. Make sure to rinse your mouth after consumption to wash off the colour stick to teeth and tongue. Avoid chewing tobacco, smoking cigarettes as both cause tooth discoloration. Activated charcoal: Brushing with powdered charcoal supposedly pulls toxins from the mouth and removes stains from teeth. Maintain good oral and Dental Hygiene as plaque build-up on your teeth can cause them to look yellow too. Brush 2 times a day especially before going to bed. Use a mouthwash and floss every day. Gargle after every meal and drink lots of water. Take plenty of calcium in your diet.
