Home Remedies

Dietary changes: cut on salty or sodium-rich foods as they can cause the body to retain water. Include foods that are high in potassium, fiber, and flavonoids as this food can help to reduce water retention, hence reducing pressure on veins and shrinking varicose veins.

Keep moving: Avoid sitting or standing for a longer time. Keep changing your position and indulge yourself in exercise, walking, swimming, cycling, and yoga. Losing weight prevents new varicose veins formation with other health benefits.

Plant extracts and herbs: Horse Chestnut Extract, Grape Seed and Pine Bark Extracts, Butcher’s Broom, Rutosides, Centella Asiatica, Witch Hazel are very helpful in reducing varicose veins. We need to dilute plant extracts and essential oils in carrier oils before applying topically or using them in a diffuser for aromatherapy.

Apple Cider Vinegar: It helps in cleaning the body and enhancing the circulation of blood through the veins. Apply apple cider vinegar to the affected area, let the skin adapt to it, and then massage it lightly.

Cayenne Pepper: The substance inside the pepper prevents the blood from clotting as a result boosts blood flow. Mix 1 teaspoon in warm water and drink the mixture for 1 to 2 months daily in the morning to have better results.

Garlic and Lemons: Garlic is powerful in fighting inflammatory conditions and Lemons are a rich source of nutrients and minerals that reduce the effects of oxidative damages. Make a fine paste of 10 to 12 cloves of garlic that can be diluted. Mix it with the juice of 2 to 3 lemons and 4 teaspoons of olive oil. Leave the mixture overnight. Massage the area with varicose veins with this mixture two times a day for two months.

Avoid tight-fitting clothes as they restrict blood flow. Wear flat shoes instead of high heels. Make massaging a daily practice as it keeps the blood moving. Keep your legs elevated for some time during the day. Drink lots of water.

Quick tip:

Use an elastic bandage to wrap sprains & strains and to provide support and compression during recovery. Or try compression stockings that aid the muscles and veins to move blood toward the heart.
