Symptoms, Causes and Remedies for Bad Breath!!

Having an unpleasant odour while exhaling is bad breath (Halitosis). The person is needed to tell if her/his mouth smells. Bad Breath can be short-term due to poor oral health, which can be treated at home but if it is chronic then you need to see a dentist.

Causes: The food left trapped in your teeth causes bacteria growth, releasing foul smells until are not rinsed off. If you don’t brush and floss regularly, these bacteria keep growing and form a thin layer called plaque which results in breath odour and dull teeth. Sometimes a medication can cause bad breath too.

Symptoms: You will experience a change in taste, dry mouth very often and a coating on the tongue.

Home Remedies

Chew some fennel seeds, cloves, or aniseeds and instantly freshen up your breath.

Parsley & mint have a deodorizing effect. 

Eat pineapple slices once or twice a day, known to refresh breath and rinse your mouth afterward.

Water: Prevent dry mouth by keeping your body hydrated. Drinking water (not caffeinated or sugary drinks) throughout the day will help encourage saliva production hence reducing bad mouth odour.

Yogurt: Probiotics contain healthy bacteria called lactobacillus helps keep your breath fresh. Eat at least one serving per day of plain, non-fat yogurt.

Oranges & lemon -Citrus fruits promote dental hygiene, hydrate your mouth, and fight bad breath.

Green tea is an effective home remedy for bad breath, it disinfect and deodorize our mouth.

Apples: Raw apples have a powerful effect against garlic breath. Apple crunch help cleanse the teeth and battle bad breath.

Home-made mouth wash:
Baking soda mouthwash: Add 2 tsp of baking soda to 1 cup of warm water.
Vinegar Mouthwash: Add 2 tsp of white or apple cider vinegar to 1 cup of water.

Good dental hygiene is the key to curing bad breath, Brush and floss at least once a day, Change your brushes every 3 months, Use tongue cleaners, Clean your dentures properly and regularly, Arrange regular dental check-ups and cleanings, Quit smoking, Avoid strong odour food at night (onions, ginger, garlic), Use sugarless gums.
